Hilton has opened Xi Zhe Wuxi, marking the first Curio Collection by Hilton property in Jiangsu Province. The hotel occupies the former residence at No. 118 Dongdajie Street and a newly constructed building at No. 65 Jiankang Road in the Liangxi District. It is situated in Wuxi’s cultural heritage district, near the former homes of Qian Zhongshu and Xue Fucheng, as well as the historic Qingming Bridge area.

Historic Design and Local Culture

The complex was developed by Hang Lung Properties and managed by Hilton. Wuxi entrepreneur Zhang Xiaocheng and his sister, obstetrician Zhang Chuquan, constructed the original residence in 1933. The name “Xi Zhe” combines a reference to Wuxi with characters symbolizing double blessings, reflecting the layout of the two buildings. The interior features terrazzo flooring, lattice patterns, and Art Deco-style carpets. Guests can find bamboo-textured headboards, plum blossom-shaped stools, and palace lantern-inspired bedside lamps.

Sanwei Bistro offers Wuxi flavors using contemporary culinary techniques, while Now and Then – French Bistro & Bar is located inside Zhang Xiaocheng’s former residence. The lobby includes a front desk modeled on traditional medicine cabinets and a spiral staircase based on the original “Zhuanpan Lou” design. The Artist Center in the lobby hosts cultural programs, and the property offers purple clay tea rituals and Wuxi folk music performances. The hotel is located at No. 65 Jiankang Road in Liangxi District, Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, and is in Wuxi’s cultural heritage district, near the former residences of Qian Zhongshu, Xue Fucheng and Hua Yanjun, also known as Abing.

Guest Facilities and Services

The hotel features 105 guest rooms and suites. Select rooms include private courtyards overlooking surrounding gardens. Facilities include four pools: indoor, outdoor, hydrotherapy, and children’s pools, plus a pool bar. The property provides sound bowl therapy, guided breathing sessions, and a 24-hour fitness center. Multifunctional meeting spaces and pet-friendly service are also available. The hotel also offers sound bowl therapy and guided breathing sessions, plus a 24-hour fitness center, multifunctional meeting spaces and pet-friendly service.

The combination of historic architecture and modern amenities positions the hotel as a significant addition to Wuxi’s hospitality sector. This specific blend of a 1933 residence with a new wing suggests a strategy that relies heavily on the narrative of the original site rather than pure modern efficiency. If the area’s cultural appeal diminishes or if maintenance of the older structure proves too costly, the hotel may struggle to justify its premium positioning compared to newer, fully modern competitors.
