Marriott International has opened its first properties in Uganda, debuting the Kampala Marriott Hotel and the Marriott Executive Apartments Kampala. Located in the Nsambya district of the capital, the dual-branded property introduces both the Marriott Hotels and Marriott Executive Apartments brands to the region. The location places the hotels just minutes from the city center and roughly 40 kilometers from Entebbe International Airport.
A New Standard for Kampala
The property targets the city’s growing business and diplomatic sectors. It provides convenient access to corporate headquarters, government institutions, and major cultural sites like the Uganda Museum, Independence Monument, and Kabaka’s Palace. According to Johan Cronjé, Regional Vice President for Sub-Saharan Africa at Marriott International, the timing reflects the evolution of Uganda’s tourism and business setting. “Kampala Marriott Hotel reflects Marriott Hotels’ enduring legacy of wonderful hospitality where guests can work, connect with others and unwind,” he stated.
Physical details include 181 guestrooms and suites, including a Presidential Suite. The design emphasizes dedicated workspaces and high-speed connectivity. The hotel’s architecture features a skybridge linking the twin towers and offers views across the city’s seven hills and, in some rooms, Lake Victoria. A signature Greatroom serves as a modern lobby space for socializing and work, while the M Club lounge caters to Bonvoy Elite members on executive floors.

Dining at the new property spans six venues and aims to integrate guests with local residents. Guests can visit The Woodshed Grill & Bar for open-flame grilling, Luna Cake Studio for artisanal pastries, or Majlis Coffee Lounge for specialty coffee. Kasana Deck offers casual outdoor dining, Iron Taps Sports Bar provides a lively environment for sports, and Tatu Rooftop Bar offers panoramic city views.
Wellness facilities include Saray Spa, steam rooms, a sauna, a fitness center, and an outdoor heated swimming pool. The hotel also offers 1,293 square meters of event space across six venues. The largest is the Kampala Grand Ballroom, which can hold up to 1,000 guests for conferences, corporate meetings, and social events.
The Marriott Executive Apartments Kampala complements the hotel with 96 fully serviced apartments. These range from studios to a three-bedroom penthouse and are designed for executives, consultants, and relocating families. The apartments feature separate living, dining, and sleeping areas, fully equipped kitchens, and dedicated workspaces. Guests receive access to the hotel’s dining, wellness, and business facilities, creating a trusted home-away-from-home environment.

The opening expands Marriott’s total portfolio in Uganda to seven properties across five brands.
